Yes, but with an important distinction worth understanding.

At-need direct cremations - arranged when a loved one has passed away, are not directly regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). However, all direct cremation providers must comply with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) funeral sector regulations, which require transparent pricing, standardised price lists and fair treatment of customers.

Prepaid funeral plans - where you pay in advance for a future direct cremation, are fully regulated by the FCA. Since July 2022, all prepaid funeral plan providers must

• Hold customer funds in a secure, independently managed trust
• Treat customers fairly and meet strict standards of conduct
• Offer a 30-day cooling-off period during which customers can cancel for a full refund
