: Yes. Since 2022, all prepaid funeral plan providers are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). That means every provider must follow certain rules to keep your money safe. Whether you pay by instalments or in a lump sum, your money is kept in a secure independent trust which is set up in line with FCA regulation. It’s managed by independent trustees to ensure there are always enough funds available for your cremation, and the trust is reviewed by an independent expert every year.
You also have the protection of the Financial Services Compensation scheme (FSCS). It means that should the worst happen and the plan provider goes out of business, there measures in place to protect your plan. For example, your plan may be transferred to another funeral plan provider, or you’ll receive a refund.
: Good question. We don’t do hidden fees, but some providers may charge extra for things like:
urgent collection - if the person died in a place without a mortuary
removal of a medical device - for example, if the person had a pacemaker
delivering the ashes - if you would like to scatter them yourself or keep them close to home
With a Simplicity Funeral Plan, all of these things are covered, so there’s nothing more for your loved ones to pay.
: No, family and friends do not attend a Simplicity Cremation, because it does not have a service at the crematorium.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a service at all. Lots of people choose to honour and remember someone in a place that feels more meaningful to the person who has died.
For example, some people may choose to arrange a service in their local place of worship, others plan a celebration of life or a gathering to scatter the ashes.
With a Simplicity Cremation, you have the freedom to plan something as special as the person you’re remembering.
: Yes! And lots of people do. Some people buy plans for their parents, other people buy one plan for themself and another for their partner.
The person you’re buying a plan for must be over 18. We’ll ask for their name, date of birth, address and contact details when you set up the plan. It can be useful to tell them about the plan, but you don’t have to.
: Yes. But don’t worry, it took us a while to get used to it too. You can say ‘crematoriums’ if you prefer, we don’t mind.
