Prepaid Funeral Plans

What is the cheapest prepaid funeral plan I can have?

At Simplicity, our cheapest funeral plan costs from £1,495, and covers all of the necessary elements of a simple funeral including 24 hour collection of the deceased, care in our quality mortuary facilities, cremation fees, a simple coffin, transport in our specialised funeral vehicles and return of ashes.

Funeral plan prices will depend on the type of plan you choose, as well as your chosen funeral provider. The cheapest prepaid funeral plan might not meet all of your requirements or provide the best value for money, so it's important to research the different plans on offer and find one to suit you.

What to consider when looking for the cheapest funeral plan

We understand that choosing the right funeral cover isn't straightforward. There are a number of different funeral plans available on the market so it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by choice. The cheapest funeral plan may appeal to you now, but could end up costing your family more in the long run.

Before you purchase a funeral plan, you should make sure you understand the specific details of the plan, checking it covers everything you need. In some cases, the plan may only cover a contribution towards services. For example, not all providers will cover the cremation fee in full. A Simplicity Cremations Prepaid Funeral Plan also includes 24/7 collection from the place of rest, while some providers will only offer collection Monday to Friday, between office hours, often 9am-5pm.

To ensure your money is safe, you should look for a provider that is registered with a professional organisation like the FPA (Funeral Planning Authority). The FPA's role is to oversee the conduct of its registered providers and in doing so, can ensure funeral plan customers and the money they have paid is protected. The money you pay for a Simplicity plan goes directly into the National Trust Fund, independently managed by some of the UK's most respected investment companies. The funds required for the funeral will be held securely to make sure the services in your plan are covered when the time comes. Read more about the funeral trust fund.

Funeral cover comparison: a funeral plan or funeral insurance, which is best for me?

Many people consider funeral insurance, sometimes referred to as Over 50s Life insurance, as a means of paying for their funeral in advance. An Over 50s policy will provide a cash lump sum when you die, that can be used to help with funeral costs. However, it is important to note that the cash lump sum paid out by an insurance policy is fixed so inflation will reduce the value over time. In some cases, people may well have paid more in premiums than the fixed lump sum that is paid out. There’s no guarantee that the insurer will pay out the full funeral cost when the time comes, which is why we think it's important to understand the benefits of paying for their funeral in advance with a prepaid funeral plan. In addition to this, your family will still have the responsibility of arranging your funeral.

In comparison to funeral insurance, a funeral plan can offer a better level of funeral cover. Rather than paying a lump sum following your death, prepaid funeral plans cover the cost of a pre-arranged funeral. You choose the kind of funeral you’d like, and the provider will supply a package that will cover funeral costs, often including the service, coffin, transportation and other related costs. A payment plan is agreed and once the plan has been paid for, no further instalments are required. Following your death, the funeral provider will take care of the funeral arrangements.

Choose a funeral plan that suits your budget and final wishes

At Simplicity, we believe that a low-cost funeral plan shouldn't mean substandard service. As with most providers, we offer different types of plans with various levels of service inclusions and costs.

Firstly, choose if you’d like anyone to attend your funeral. If not, our Lily Plan provides a direct cremation without a service or ceremony beforehand. Our cheapest prepaid funeral plan, costs just £1,495 if paid for within 12 months, and covers all of the practicalities for a simple funeral including the cost of cremation, provision of a simple wood effect coffin, 24/7 collection from the place of rest, care at one of our mortuaries and the return of ashes in a simple container.

If you do want attendance at your funeral, our Magnolia and Orchid plans allow you to choose whether you’d like just a small funeral for a few family and friends or a full service funeral led by your family for a larger gathering.

A prepaid funeral plan can save on funeral costs in the long run

A prepaid funeral plan gives you the opportunity to plan and pay for your funeral in advance, whilst freezing costs at today’s prices, avoiding future inflation or potential price rises.

A plan also allows you to protect those left behind, helping to avoid placing the full financial burden on your family in the event of your death.

When the time comes, all it will take is one phone call to put the plans into motion.

There are a number of ways you can pay for a Simplicity Funeral Plan

A funeral plan allows you to spread the cost of your funeral, an option not widely available when paying for a funeral at the time someone has passed away. We have a range of flexible payment options, so you can choose to pay in the way that suits you.

Choose to pay in a single lump sum, instalments over 12 months at no extra cost or over a duration of up to 10 years (all payments over any instalment longer than 12 months must be completed by the 80th birthday of the planholder). Our cheapest funeral plan costs just £15.97 per month when paid over a duration of 10 years.

Whichever way you choose, you can be safe in the knowledge that your family won’t have any more to pay for the services set out in your plan when the time comes.
