England’s national lockdown: can I still arrange a funeral with Simplicity?

On 31st October, the Prime Minister announced a four-week lockdown in England. The new national restrictions in England will come into effect on Thursday 5th November and will last until Wednesday 2nd December.

Throughout this period, we will be continuing to provide cremation services throughout the whole of mainland Great Britain like we always do, providing high standards and service for families and their loved ones.

There are some restrictions on our services based on the governments social distancing guidelines. Some of our crematoria are limiting the number of attendees that can attend a funeral, which may affect our Intimate and Attended Funerals. Our team can provide you with the exact number of attendees allowed at each crematorium and clear guidance on how this may affect you at the time of arrangement.

Arranging a funeral

Unlike many funeral providers, a Simplicity Cremation can be arranged entirely over the phone, so you’ll be able to arrange a funeral even if you are self-isolating due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). You will not be required to visit a funeral home or have face-to-face interactions with a Funeral Director. To arrange a funeral, you can contact us via telephone or using our contact us form.

- We cover the whole of Great Britain and, as part of the UK’s largest funeral services group, we can provide help and care to anyone that needs us right now.

- We are available 24 hours a day. Please be patient if we take a little longer to answer the phone than normal, we are here for you and will speak to you as soon as we can.

- If you have a prepaid funeral plan - nothing changes with how it is used or what it covers. There may be some limitations imposed in some areas of the service due to us adhering to the latest government guidelines. Please call the number provided with your funeral plan documents and you will be given the appropriate guidance for you.

Attending a funeral

The government guidance advises funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people, however, the number of mourners allowed to attend an Intimate or Attended Funeral services will vary depending on the chosen crematorium and how many attendees the crematorium can safely accommodate in their Chapel. We will be able to advise of the number of attendees your chosen crematorium can accommodate at the time of arrangement.

It is advised that only close friends and family attend the funeral. Social distancing should be maintained between people who do not live together or share a support bubble.

Please note, our Unattended Funeral does not allow for mourners to attend as normal.
