How to arrange a 'cheap funeral'?
With the average cost of a basic funeral in the UK at £4,417*, it’s no wonder that 39% of the people surveyed as part of the same report claimed they actively tried to cut back on certain aspects when arranging a funeral for a loved one, to keep the overall cost of the funeral down.
Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can arrange a cheap funeral and keep funeral costs down should you wish to, by arranging a funeral without a Funeral Director or choosing an affordable funeral provider such as Simplicity. Read on to find out how you can arrange a cremation from £995.
Arrange a Funeral without a Funeral Director
Funeral costs will differ depending on where in the UK you live and the services you choose, although a large percentage of the cost will typically cover Funeral Director fees.
A Funeral Director puts a lot of time and effort into providing the funeral you have paid for, which will understandably be reflected in the price. What is included in the Funeral Director’s package will differ depending on your chosen provider. The majority of funerals are arranged by a Funeral Director although this is not a requirement.
To save on funeral costs, you could choose to arrange a funeral yourself without the assistance of a Funeral Director. Arranging a DIY funeral can be a difficult process, so the decision to do so should not be taken lightly.
We’ve detailed some of the other typical funeral costs as you may want to consider if all are necessary or if a cheaper alternative is available.
Choose a Simplicity Cremation
All of our funerals are arranged over the phone with our team of funeral experts, without face-to-face meetings with a Funeral Director. We know organising a funeral is something most people will be unfamiliar with, so unlike arranging a DIY funeral, we will take care of the practicalities of a simple cremation, allowing you celebrate the life of your loved one in a way that suits you as well as your family.
At Simplicity, we specialise in providing affordable funerals without the ceremonial excess. We can offer substantial cost savings versus the cost of an average funeral because our funerals do not include embalming, a procession with a hearse or limousines or the provision of a team of pallbearers. This way, you can say goodbye in a way that suits you and your budget.
Direct Cremation from £995
One of the easiest ways to arrange a cheap funeral is to opt for a direct cremation. A direct cremation takes place without a funeral service or any mourners present; instead, families often opt for a memorial with the ashes or a celebration of life at a later date.
Not just suitable for those looking for a low cost funeral alternative, a direct cremation also suits those who expressed their wishes for a low key funeral without a service or ceremony prior to cremation.
At Simplicity, we offer direct cremation from £995. This cost includes everything you will need including doctor’s fees, cremation fees, a simple coffin, and transportation of your loved one to the crematorium.
We appreciate that a direct cremation will not suit everyone and many of the people searching for a cheap funeral will be looking for a funeral with the option to attend. Unlike many direct cremation providers, we also offer attended funerals.
Attended Funeral from £1,895
An attended funeral allows a full length ceremony at the crematorium, organised by the family. Just like a traditional funeral, you will be able to choose the funeral music, read a eulogy, funeral reading or poem and share memories about your loved one. The main difference is that the funeral starts when you enter the chapel as there is no procession beforehand.
The attended funeral is priced at £1,895, no matter where in mainland Great Britain you live. The funeral will take place at one of our preferred crematoria local to the place of rest.
Intimate Funeral from £1,395
If you would prefer a small funeral, the intimate funeral allows up to 12 people to attend a private cremation. You will be welcomed into the chapel by our Chapel Attended, where you will have a short time to reflect and say a few words.
All of our funerals cover the cost of doctor’s fees, cremation fees, a simple coffin and transportation in a private funeral vehicle.
Finding a 'cheap funeral plan'
With a growing number of people making financial provisions to pay for their own funeral, you could of course be searching for a ‘cheap funeral’ for yourself.
Our cheapest funeral plan costs £1,495 if paid within 12 months and covers everything you will need for a simple cremation.
With a funeral plan in place, you can rest assured that no matter how much prices may rise in future, the cost of the services in your plan will be covered with no unexpected bills to be paid by your family when the time comes.
At Simplicity, we don’t want to take away the sentiment and remembrance that a funeral can bring, but we do believe a funeral shouldn’t cost the earth. A funeral on a budget does not mean it has to be any less dignified or respectful than a funeral that costs thousands of pounds.
